Seeing a couples counsellor

Many couples will only approach a couples’ counsellor when their relationship has reached what appears to be breaking point. You don’t need to wait until things get bad, however, before deciding to make contact. Couples’ counselling allows individuals the opportunity to open up to each other about their relationship in a safe, non-judgemental space, to discuss its strengths as well as its weaknesses and to look at ways of maintaining and improving relationships, not simply saving them.

Relationship counselling

Although described as couple’s counselling, clients can arrange to come to counselling together, individually, or choose a combination of individual and couples sessions. However you approach your counselling sessions, you can be certain that you will be discussing your relationship in confidentiality.

Clients coming to relationship counselling often present with very different objectives. For some, there will be a specific problem within their relationship that they are looking to address. For others, there will be more generalised relationship issues to be overcome.
